Weeknotes 6. It’s been three weeks since my last weeknotes because:
- We’ve moved! - Pauline and I have finished our house move and are all unpacked! We’ve had a Trello board help us keep track of everything. At the moment there are 42(!!!) cards in the done column ranging from arranging mortgage appointments to setting up broadband. We still have 17 cards left to do for a few less urgent things such as getting curtains for all the rooms and registering with new doctors.
- Drilling - I want to level-up my DIY skills so I can put up coat hooks and curtain rails. I’m looking for recommendations for an electric drill and anything else that can help me get started.
- The worst sign up form - I had trouble registering with Virgin Media for broadband. Apparently, my first name is too long 🤦.
- Cautionary Tales - I’ve enjoyed the storytelling in the first 7 episodes of the Cautionary Tales podcast. The latest episode Bowie, Jazz and the Unplayable Piano tells how constraints can help creativity. I learned about Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt’s Oblique Strategies card deck, which can help artists past creative blocks with suggestions on how to continue, e.g. ‘Work at a different speed’. I found others have thought about how similar prompts could help programmers.
